Welcome to the new website of NVCRA!

I would like to start off my first president’s message by giving a brief introduction of who I am for those of you who are not as familiar with me.  I am the mother of four.  My oldest daughter is a sophomore at Boise State University.  My son is a sailor in the Navy.  And I have a daughter who is a freshman in high school, and last but not least, my youngest daughter is in the seventh grade.

I began my journey into court reporting back in 1997 after seeing a commercial on TV and thinking to myself, Well, I like typing.  And somebody will pay me to listen to people’s dirty laundry?  Where do I sign up?  As we all know, however, it wasn’t as easy as all that.  Like many other students, court reporting school was a labor of love.  There were lots of laughs and lots of tears, but on the other side of the battle, myself and one other lady out of 16 that started, finally finished our journey.  I received my license in August of 2001 and I have been in love with court reporting ever since.

This brings me to my next point.  I vehemently believe that there are other future court reporters out there just waiting to discover the rewards of our profession.  Unfortunately, our only accredited school in Nevada has closed its doors to court reporting.  I believe it’s essential that we bring a school back to our state and start targeting our graduating classes from across Nevada to continue our prestigious legacy of being guardians of the record.  It may be just a dream, but I’m hoping the Nevada Court Reporters Association can make this dream a reality with some hard work from our board of directors and the support of our membership.

So in my first president’s message, I would like to reach out to each and every member for their support.  First, please encourage your fellow reporters who are not currently members to sign up or renew their membership.  Remind them that not only is their strength in numbers to fight against DAR, but it is also an opportunity to get involved with their fellow court reporters in the state to help promulgate a profession that we all fought through court reporting school to achieve and are proud to have the acronym, CCR, behind our names.

Kristy Clark, RPR

President

Court Reporters Demonstrate their superior skills

If you have ever wondered how the closed captions "appear" on the television, this video will show you a couple of the country's best court reporters/captioners and how fast they can write.  You will be amazed! Check it out! Click on the video below!

If you missed being at the 2013 Convention then you missed the big show!  Attendees called this one the "best in years", "speakers were top notch", and "a great opportunity to meet old friends and network with new ones".  Stay tuned for pictures and videos from the convention!
